With a small bandgap, all photons will be absorbed but the cell voltage will be very low.
This is because photons will create hot electrons and hot holes that will lose all their energy almost immediately as heat (thermalisation).

So our current will be high, but our voltage will be very low.
This our second fondamental loss: Thermlisation leads a loss in the voltage of our solar cell!
